TRUSTING THREE HARDWORKING ACTORS HAS NEVER BEEN THIS HILARIOUSLY SWEET – UNTIL THIS WEEK’S PREMIERE OF EULACHACHA WAIKIKI.
Kim Jung Hyun, Lee Yi Kyung, and Son Seung Won blended their characters well, pushing a refreshing comedy for jTBC’s newest offering, Eulachacha Waikiki.
The drama kicked off to narrate the story of three friends running a guesthouse, while waiting for a glimpse of hope that their personal dreams will still come true.
PILOT WEEK RECAP
Kang Dong Gu (Kim Jung Hyun) wakes up to a messy guesthouse. He receives a phonecall notifying that water service will be cut. He gripes at his business-partner-cum-friends Lee Jun Ki (Lee Yi Kyung) and Bang Doo Shik (Son Seung Won) about their situation, then walks out to tone down his annoyance. He suddenly hears chuckling baby sound and screams when he finds a real baby laying down on one of the guesthouse’ bed. His friends rushes to check the commotion. Upon serious contemplation, they decide to take care of the baby for now, while waiting for her parents to get her back.
As the house bills pile up, the trio struggle on raising money to pay for the bills. Thanks to the cute baby who attracted foreign girls they bump with on their way home, the guesthouse suddenly fill up with travelers looking for a place to stay. Thinking that the baby is a lucky charm, they agree to keep her instead of reporting to the police. When they catches someone running away with the baby, they finally meet the baby’s mother – Yoon Ah.
The boys decide to let her and her baby, Sol, stay in the house as they do not have a place to stay. Meanwhile, Dong Gu struggles after breaking up with her girlfriend of four years. To put up an I’m-happy-now face, Jun Ki orchestrated a ploy to win the ex-girlfriend back by making Yoon Ah pretend to be his girlfriend. But the plan backfires, and the ex-girlfriend left Dong Gu for good.
PILOT WEEK VERDICT
It’s a refreshing laugh trip for jTBC’s newest comedy drama. I have already included it on my regular weekly bucket to lighten up the emotional load of the K-drama lineup these days, especially because most of the dramas run on a serious tone.
Cheerful dramas easily win the viewers’ heart. So far, Eulachacha Waikiki hits the bull’s eye for its premiere week. The drama teases a trajectory for the lead trio in fulfilling their career dreams as a writer, actor, and director, if they will be successful in their guesthouse business. Although the main leads’ comic notes seem enough to propel the story, romance will surely bloom to support the plot.
Kim Jung Hyun, Lee Yi Kyung, and Son Seung Won are piles of humor love. Their zesty portrayals promise to gift the audience with feel-good spirit and stress-relieving good laugh.
Eulachacha Waikiki is open for guest viewers on jTBC every Monday and Tuesday!
